First Annual Questors Club Meets

Supper Club Experience

Friends, new and old, of the Capuchin friars came together this spring for a night of fellowship, fun and relationship-building at the Capuchin Center in Milwaukee. The first annual meeting of the Questors Club was a benefit for Capuchin Ministries that emulated the mid-century Supper Club experience. With a Sinatra-inspired music playlist, relish trays, and poor man’s lobster, the night was reminiscent of famous Wisconsin supper clubs of yore. The coup de grâce, after-dinner chilled grasshoppers, made the night extra special.

Proceeds from the night support Capuchin ministries in Wisconsin, including Capuchin Community Services and St. Lawrence Seminary, and support our Capuchin friaries in Milwaukee, Mount Calvary and Appleton. The Provincial Minister, Friar Mark Joseph Costello, OFM Cap., served as master of ceremonies. Friar Dave Schwab, OFM Cap. offered the blessing before dinner. Friar Gary Wegner, OFM Cap. gave the closing blessing and Friar Mike Bertram, OFM Cap. served as auctioneer for the live auction and led the heads-and-tails game.

What's in a Name?

The name, Questors Club, harkens to an ancient tradition among the Franciscan religious orders. Traditionally, a friar or group of friars would be tasked with “questing,” or going out among the community begging alms for people living in poverty. As times and needs have evolved, the friars generally don’t go door-to- door seeking alms, but instead, fundraising events like the Questors Club bring people together, build community, and raise money to support people in need. Thank you to all who attended or supported the inaugural Questors Club. We look forward to hosting the second annual meeting of the Questors Club on April 25, 2024.
