Support for the Mission

In these challenging times, the mission of our Capuchin ministries could not be more important. If you'd like to help, please consider making a tax-deductable donation.

With the physical and spiritual needs of those in the Midwest continuing to increase, many are turning to the Capuchins for aid. We would be most grateful if you would consider keeping our ministries in your prayers and offering your support to help us meet this need. In these challenging times, our mission could not be more important. Of particular note is the increasing number of people who are turning to our Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Capuchin Community Services for some of life’s basic necessities.

There are several ways for you to help, and a number of them are not only tax-wise, they can also benefit you. For additional information about any of these opportunities, you may contact our Director of Development, Kristi Hassouna, at 313-939-2002 or [email protected].

Gifts from your IRA

If you are age 72 or older, Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) from your IRA account are required. By directing your plan administrator to send your RMD directly to us, you will not have to pay tax on the distribution, which could potentially place you in a lower income tax bracket. Those who are ages 70 1/2 to 72 can also take advantage of this benefit, although they are not required to take the distribution at the moment. In addition to the age requirement, the distribution must be $100,000 or less, and the distribution must come directly from your plan administrator to us. We would be happy to guide you through this process.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Although interest rates are moving higher, many still view them as quite conservative, especially when the income they produce is necessary to make ends meet. By creating a charitable gift annuity with the Capuchins, you can generate extra income at a rate that is quite attractive (as high as 9.1%, depending on your age) and will never change, no matter what is happening with the economy. For most annuitants, the income received is also partially tax-free. Please call us to request a personalized illustration for yourself; there is no obligation.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Although the stock market has had a rough ride the past year, many still have investments that have increased in value compared to their original cost. When you donate shares of appreciated stock that have been held for longer than a year, you are able to deduct the present value of the stock rather than what you paid for it. You also avoid tax on the capital gain, and such gifts free your cash to be used for other purposes.

Gifts from Donor Advised Funds

A Donor Advised Fund allows people to place cash or stock into a fund and immediately receive a charitable tax deduction. Owners can then direct a portion of that fund to support their favorite charities. If you presently have a Donor Advised Fund, we invite you to consider making a gift to the Capuchin friars and our ministries.
