American Capuchins Gather in Colombia

Capuchin leaders from across the Americas gathered in Colombia earlier this year to discuss and plan greater collaboration across Provinces.

The second Encuentro Pan Americano took place February 4-11, 2024 in Bogotá, Colombia, with delegates from the Province of St. Joseph and other North American Capuchin Provinces meeting and dialoguing with their brothers from Central and South America. This coming together of the Capuchins of North, Central and South America engenders discussion of issues of common concern to the future of the Capuchin presence and ministry in the Western Hemisphere. Calling to mind Pope Francis’ call for a culture of encounter within the Church, the meeting of Capuchins from the Americas allows for relationship-building and opens avenues of fraternal collaboration among Capuchin Franciscans across the Americas.

The Province of St. Joseph has been nominated as the host of the next Encuentro, to take place in Michigan, at a future date in either 2026 or 2027.
