My dear sisters and brothers,

The year 2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginnings of the Capuchin order. What defines us as Capuchins? As Franciscans, we follow the Rule of St. Francis, which is “to observe the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, without anything of our own, and in chastity.” In addition, our Capuchin Constitutions shape our fraternity, along with the documents of the Second Vatican Council.

Among the hallmarks of our Capuchin way of life are radical poverty, a life of contemplative prayer, brotherhood and minority. In this issue of Sandal Prints, we hope to show how these elements of the Capuchin charism express themselves in the ministry of the friars of the Province of St. Joseph.

Peace and all good,

Br. Mark Joseph Costello, OFM Capuchin
